Current Exhibit: The Wallace Brothers Roots,Herbs and Religion
Isaac and David Wallace were German Jews who emigrated from Germany between 1859 and 1861. They settled in Statesville leading a legacy of the town’s most distinguished business owners and community leaders. In 1861, their general store was opened on West Broad St near the corner of Meeting St. Within 10 years of opening the general store, they soon became the largest herb and dried plant goods operation in the world.
Not only did they create a rich and booming community for Statesville, but their faith led to the creation of Congregation Emanuel, the first Jewish temple in Statesville.
